Yeah, the music isn't terribly good on it's own, but it fits the planet that it's played on well, and the SFX mesh with the tracks well. However, if you take it out and play it on it's own, it doesn't work as well.
I notice that this could apply to many games. A lot of games have music that only plays in one/a few levels or situations, and while they sound great during gameplay, they don't sound so good outside of it (unless the game is playing music not made for the game, which usually does, as you would expect). When the music doesn't sound good during gameplay, though, then you have problems, especially in a game as music-oriented as Meteos.
This was one of my big problems with Dawndus in Meteos Wars; Not only did the music not fit too well with Dawndus, but with almost every large stack, almost every match would make this really ear-grating sound that lasted for around five seconds that would layer on top of itself whenever you made an ignition. It got really annoying, really fast. The planet was already not too much fun to use, but with the sounds? Ugh.
EDIT; Fixed typos. As it turns out, I can't type to save my life.
